In the era of social media where we love to share all the photos and videos online, there's always one word that hits our mind, that is "SAFETY".

1. REMOVE A FOLLOWER

With open Instagram account, many unknown people can follow you which may risk your privacy. There are many options on Instagram which will help you to keep unknown people away from your Instagram account and one such option is "Block". But with new "Remove followers' option, you can now remove those followers whom you don't want to see your shared photos and videos. Follow these steps to remove those unwanted followers from your account.

I) On your Instagram account, tap on the "Followers".

II) Select the user whom you want to remove by tapping on the three dots and then unfollow/remove them.

2. PRIVATE ACCOUNT

As mentioned above, there are many options to secure your Instagram account and here is the most useful one. You can keep your Instagram account private which will restrict the reach of your Instagram account. Not everyone will be able to see your photos and videos as your shared posts will be available to only those people whom you have given permission to follow you. Follow these steps to make your Instagram account private.

I) In your Instagram account, tap on three dots if you are using Android and tap on the gear icon if you are an iOS user.

II) Scroll down the menu and you'll find the "Private Account". Turn it on and your account is now private.

3. BLOCK COMMENTS

Sometimes when you share something on your Instagram account, (considering that your account is not private and is open to all) you may see many spam comments which obviously decrease the quality of your comment box. So, in order to make it look good to your friends and families, you can block comments of those people who are not your followers or whom you are not following. Follow these steps to Block comments.

I) In your Instagram account, tap on three dots if you are using Android and tap on the gear icon if you are an iOS user.

II) Scroll down the settings menu and you will find "Comment Controls". Tap on it and set your privacy which suits you the best.

4. STOP STORIES REPLIES

Almost we update stories on the Instagram and there is an option to reply to those stories right below the story screen. It may happen that you upload some stories with your own opinion which hurt other's sentiment and in return, they replied you with abusive or rubbish comments.

In order to not to receive such replies through your stories, you can opt out to stop stories replies. Follow these steps to stop stories replies.

5. HIDE STORIES

We all know that Instagram is way better than Facebook, in terms of privacy and here's one of the best example of it. You can hide the stories on Instagram from those people whom you never wanted to see your stories. Just like WhatsApp, Instagram also allows us to share our stories to only those people whom we want to have a look on our stories. Follow these steps to Hide Stories from users.

6. STOP STORIES RESHARING

If you are using Instagram for a long time, you may be aware of stories sharing, i.e. anyone who can see your stories can also share your stories on their Instagram profile without your permission. You won't be able to know whether anyone is sharing your stories or not and if your account is open to all, then it can become a serious issue.

Well, without worrying more about it, just remember that Instagram let you to stop stories resharing to protect your privacy. To stop stories resharing, follow these steps.

I) In your Instagram account, tap on three dots if you are using Android and tap on the gear icon if you are an iOS user.

II) Scroll down the settings menu and you'll find "Resharing to Stories" option. Tap on it and turn off the "Allow Resharing to Stories".

7. TAGGED POSTS

In Instagram, unlike Facebook, anyone can tag you on any posts which makes your account visible to many unknown and suspicious users and in return, you'll many spam follow requests, many message requests and what not and this will more often if a particular user is girl.

You can't stop anyone from tagging you, but you can stop yourself from getting tagged. I mean to say that you can enable an option on the Instagram which will let you to approve the tagged post first. To do so, follow these steps.

I) In your Instagram account, tap on three dots if you are using Android and tap on the gear icon if you are an iOS user.

II) Scroll down the settings menu and you'll find "Photos of You" option. Tap on it and turn "Add Automatically" off. Now, no one will be able to tag you on any post without your approval.

8. TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

The most useful and yet underrated privacy settings on the Instagram which many users don't use. Two factor authentication is available on almost every social media app and it is useful too. By activating two factor authentication, you'll receive an OTP to your mobile number (which you have saved in your Instagram account), and without entering those OTP, you can't login to your Instagram account.

If you're thinking about the scenario, when you won't receive any OTP due to network problems or something else, then don't worry, Instagram will provide you six backup codes and using those codes, you can login to your Instagram account without any problem. To activate Two Factor Authentication, follow these steps.

I) In your Instagram account, tap on three dots if you are using Android and tap on the gear icon if you are an iOS user.

II) Scroll down the settings menu and you'll find the "Two Factor Authentication" option. Tap on it and turn on the "Require Security Code" option. Now, no one will able to login to your Instagram account without your permission as OTP is with you.
